Luggage storage: where to leave your bags

For the gap between check-out and a late flight, a day between flats, or a week of house hunting: the booking services that let shops and hotels hold your bags, the desks at airports and stations, what each costs, and what happens if something goes missing.

Checked on 20 October 2026. Prices and cover are from each service's, airport's or station's own pages, unless we say otherwise. Booking services price by city and by place, so check the price when you book.

The short version

  1. Booking services are usually cheapest. Shops, cafés and hotels hold your bag for a day rate you pay online: starting prices in London run from £1.49 a bag a day (Stasher, says its blog) to £5 a day, against £15 for up to 24 hours at Heathrow. Stasher blog, June 2026, Bounce, London, Radical Storage, London Oxford Street, Heathrow, left luggage
  2. Check the cover, not just the price. It runs from €500 a bag included with LuggageHero to £10,000 a booking with Bounce, while Radical Storage charges £1.99 a bag for it. LuggageHero, Paris, February 2026, Bounce, London, Radical Storage, London Oxford Street
  3. Expect a staffed desk, not a locker, in London. Gatwick has no lockers "due to security reasons"; Heathrow, Gatwick and the big London stations have staffed desks instead, charging by the item or bag. Gatwick, luggage storage, Heathrow, left luggage, Excess Baggage, locations and hours
  4. Leave valuables out. LuggageHero refuses cash, jewellery, valuable documents and life-saving medicine; the London desks can refuse jewellery, exclude bags worth more than £200 and cap what they'll pay at £200 a ticket. What you can leave

Commonly refused
Weapons, explosives, flammable or dangerous goods, food and other perishables, drugs and live animals. LuggageHero also refuses cash, jewellery, valuable documents, life-saving medicine and anything fragile, irreplaceable or of great sentimental value. LuggageHero help centre, what can be stored, October 2025, Excess Baggage, terms and conditions of deposit, SNCF Gares & Connexions, Gare du Nord left luggage terms, December 2025
Size
LuggageHero says it has no size or weight limit, and Bounce no standard limit, but LuggageHero says very large or oddly shaped items such as bikes may be refused at some places, and Bounce says items such as skis and bikes need extra space. Gare du Nord charges €15 a day for those. LuggageHero, Paris, February 2026, Bounce, London, LuggageHero help centre, what can be stored, October 2025, SNCF Gares & Connexions, Gare du Nord left luggage terms, December 2025
Security checks
At Gare du Nord every bag is X-rayed before it's accepted. The London desks can ask for ID and a ticket or boarding pass, and can look inside any bag. SNCF Gares & Connexions, Gare du Nord left luggage terms, December 2025, Excess Baggage, terms and conditions of deposit
Hotels
If you're staying in a hotel, ask at check-in whether it will hold your bags after you leave: it's each hotel's own policy. One Tokyo hotel's rules, for example, keep deposited items for three months before it may dispose of them, and charge ¥1,000 an item for bags left 8 or more days before you check in. Hotel 1899 Tokyo, hotel regulations, June 2026
Bags left too long
The London desks can sell or destroy bags not collected within 3 months; at Gare du Nord bags left over 15 days count as abandoned. Excess Baggage, terms and conditions of deposit, SNCF Gares & Connexions, Gare du Nord left luggage terms, December 2025

If something goes wrong

Photograph your bags
Bounce and Stasher both ask for a photo of each bag at drop-off, and set short claim windows: 24 hours after the booking ends with Bounce, 48 with Stasher. Bounce, London, Stasher, the Stasher Guarantee
Pay through the app
Stasher only covers bags booked and paid through Stasher: paying the shop in cash cancels the cover. Bounce's cover excludes bookings made outside Bounce. Stasher, the Stasher Guarantee, Bounce, London
Desk limits
Excess Baggage, which runs the London airport and station desks, limits what it pays to £200 a ticket and excludes bags whose contents together are worth more than £200. Excess Baggage, terms and conditions of deposit
Your rights in the UK
A business storing your bags must do it "with reasonable care and skill", and a term can't remove that duty. A term that limits it isn't binding if it would stop you getting back what you paid, and can otherwise still be challenged as unfair.
