Keep training, wherever you work

A new city usually means no gym. You do not want a year's contract for a month's stay, and hotel gyms are often a treadmill and a rack of dumbbells. These are the ways to get into a proper gym or class for a day, a week or a month, and which of them work in the cities we cover.

Gym day passes

TrainAway

Buy a pass for a gym near you in the app, show it at reception, train. No membership and no subscription.

Passes
A day pass, a three-day pass (72 hours) or a week (168 hours). Once you activate a day pass, you have 2 hours to get in.
Validity
Each pass is valid for 30 days, and you activate it when you want to use it.
Price
From $5 a day; TrainAway says most day passes are $10 or more. A day at Fitness Hut in Lisbon is €8.80.
Cancelling
A pass can be cancelled within 30 days as long as it has not been activated.
Network
1,500+ gyms in more than 40 countries, by its own count, though its pages give a few different figures.
Who runs it
TrainAway ApS in Copenhagen, founded in 2017, which merged with BODDY of Zurich in 2023.

Best for Short stays, and trying a few gyms before you join one.

Which works in each city

"Not confirmed" means we could not find it on the provider's own pages, not that it is missing: check in the app for that city. We checked the first 20 cities on 8 October and the other 30 on 15 October 2026. That day we couldn't open TrainAway's city pages, so it is "Not confirmed" in all 30.

Before you go

  • Check the pass in the app before you walk over. Gyms join and leave these networks, so check the gym is still listed and its opening hours on the day.
  • Staying a month or more? Ask the gym for its own monthly price too. Some sell short memberships to visitors, and three or four day passes a week add up quickly.
  • Nomad insurance and sport. Policies list which sports they cover, and some limit climbing, diving or contact sports. Our insurance comparer links each policy's terms.
