Colombia digital nomad visa

Colombia's digital nomad visa, a V visa, lets you stay up to two years working for employers or clients abroad, or your own company. You need three times the minimum wage, COP 5,252,715 a month in 2026, and you apply online.

How to apply

  1. Apply online through the foreign ministry's visa system, upload your documents and pay the study fee; the issue fee is paid after approval. The visa is electronic.
  2. Immigration firms say you can apply from inside Colombia if your nationality isn't on the restricted list.
  3. Then register with Migración Colombia and apply for your foreigner ID card, the cédula de extranjería, within 15 calendar days of arriving, or of the visa being issued if you got it inside Colombia.

Up to 30 calendar days to decide once the study fee is paid. Pay the issue fee within 10 days of approval, and the e-visa is emailed within 10 working days.

The documents

The main items. Your consulate's own checklist is the one that counts, so check it before you start.

  • Passport valid six months, with a blank page
  • A digital photo
  • Three months of bank statements showing the income
  • A letter from your employer abroad, or a certificate that you work for your own company
  • Health insurance
  • A criminal record certificate, apostilled, according to immigration firms
  • Foreign documents apostilled and translated into Spanish

Health insurance

Required: cover in Colombia for all risks, for the whole stay. Immigration firms say basic travel insurance isn't accepted.

Family, renewing and tax

Family
A spouse or partner and children apply for beneficiary visas once yours is approved.
Renewing
There's no automatic renewal: make a new application before it expires. Time on it doesn't count towards residence.
What it leads to
Nowhere: time on it does not count towards residence
Tax

Worth knowing

  • February 2026: a court suspended the 2026 minimum wage decree. The suspension was lifted in July, so the figure stands, though a final ruling is still due. It resets in January 2027 anyway.
