City guides Czech Republic
Prague
Prague has a digital nomad programme, but it is narrow. You need a passport from a short list, a job in IT (marketing too, by one official account) and an income of about CZK 885,870 a year by our sum, which is 1.5 times the Czech average gross annual wage. Annual quotas can close it mid-year. Getting around is cheap, at CZK 550 a month for a transport pass. Rent is the big cost: central asking rents run from CZK 451 to 505 per square metre a month.

How far English gets you Not checked. We found no reliable figure for how far English gets you in Prague. One pointer from GOV.UK: of the city's police stations, it names the 24-hour station at Jungmannovo namesti 9 (metro Mustek) as the one with English-speaking interpreters. So do not expect English at every official counter.
Honestly
Is this your kind of place?
It suits you if
British, American and other listed-passport holders who work in IT, as a foreign company's employee or as a freelancer willing to take out a Czech trade licence, and who earn well above the Czech average wage. It suits someone who can apply before the year's quota is used up, can wait up to 45 days for a decision, and is happy to live by tram and metro on a CZK 550 monthly pass.
It does not suit you if
Remote workers outside IT: the nomad programme is not open to you, and marketing is only listed by CzechInvest. Anyone whose passport is not on the list, and three official pages give three different lists. Anyone who needs certainty: there is no legal entitlement to a place, and the quota can shut applications mid-year. Anyone hoping for cheap rent: a 45 square metre flat at central asking rates comes to about CZK 20,300 to 22,700 a month.

| Family | A spouse, registered partner and children can apply at the same time |
| Permanent residence | After 5 years' residence, according to the Integration Centre Prague. A 2026 reform of the residence law has been reported but was not checked |

The summer is the warm season and also the wettest: June and July average 67 to 69mm of rain, against 16 to 26mm a month from November to March. July averages 26.5 degrees by day. Winter is cold, at 3.9 degrees in January, with nights just below freezing. These are 1991-2020 averages for Klementinum, a city-centre station that runs warm and dry, read from Wikipedia's table, which cites the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. We have not checked when the city is busiest with tourists.
Connectivity
The internet, honestly
That is the median fixed download for the Czech Republic as a whole, 83.46 Mbps, from Ookla data for the 12 months to August 2025, reported by DataReportal. Mobile is faster, at a median of 96.52 Mbps. There is no figure for Prague, and nothing reliable on working from cafes. Ask the landlord what line the flat has and get it in writing before you sign.

-
Carry ID
You must carry it, and a passport is advised. Police can fine or arrest you without it, though a scan of your passport is usually accepted if you have done nothing wrong
-
Validate paper tickets
An unvalidated paper ticket brings an on-the-spot fine of CZK 1,000, or CZK 1,500 if you do not pay there and then
-
Cross at crossings
You can be fined for crossing a road or tram tracks away from a crossing or against a red light. Trams have priority on zebra crossings
-
Report theft within 24 hours
Report it in person at a police station to get a crime number for insurance. The 24-hour station at Jungmannovo namesti 9 (metro Mustek) has English-speaking interpreters
-
Fake police
Plainclothes "police" who ask to see your passport and foreign currency are fake: real officers cannot do this. Call 112 to check
-
Cannabis is illegal
Shops sell trace-THC "cannabis products", but all possession is illegal, and drug offences carry up to 18 years
-
No drink at the wheel
The limit for drivers is zero. The fine is up to CZK 50,000, with licence confiscation or prison
