The best time to go, city by city
Month by month for every city we cover: how hot and how wet it usually gets, the seasons to plan around, the busiest months and the big events that fill hotels.
How we colour the months. Green: an average high of 20–32°C and under 150mm of rain in the month. Red: a high of 38°C or more, a high under 12°C, 250mm of rain or more, or a high of 33°C or more with 150mm of rain. Amber is everything in between. It's a rough guide from long-term averages, not a forecast, and it doesn't count smoke, wind, heatwaves or crowds: read each city's notes.
Every city, every month
The average daytime high for each month, coloured by our rule. A drop means 150mm of rain or more.

Averages for Ngurah Rai airport, Denpasar, on the coast; Ubud is inland and higher, 1991–2020. Read from Wikipedia's table of the WMO averages, taken from a private copy of the WMO data; Indonesia's met service, BMKG, confirms the pattern (over 300mm in January, under 100mm from July to September). The table doesn't say what counts as a rain day.
Seasons to plan around
- Warm all year. The UK government says the rainy season usually runs from October to March, with flash floods possible, and the dry season usually from April to September.
- The averages are for Denpasar airport, not Ubud, which is inland and higher and so cooler. We rate Ubud's months on rain only.
