Viator is owned by TripAdvisor and is simply the largest thing in this category: over four hundred thousand experiences across two thousand five hundred destinations from sixty-five thousand operators. If you have moved somewhere that is not on the usual list, this is where to look first, and its review base — three hundred and thirty thousand reviews at 4.5 — is the most statistically settled signal on this page.

One structural thing deserves a plain warning. An executed Viator supplier agreement filed with the American securities regulator states that “Viator has the right to set the actual retail rate” of each product, and that the most-favoured-nation clause protects the rate Viator *buys* at, not the rate you pay. GetYourGuide’s contract works the other way round. That does not mean Viator is always dearer, but it is the one platform here where a markup is contractually possible, so for anything expensive it is worth opening the operator’s own site.

One genuine protection in the other direction: operators are contractually barred from imposing stricter cancellation terms through Viator than they offer direct. And be careful with the free-cancellation promise, which covers “most” experiences — there is a stricter seven-day tier and there are outright non-refundable listings, and when a consumer watchdog asked Viator what the split was, it did not answer.
