The review
GetYourGuide is the one to reach for first in Europe, and the reason is written into its contracts rather than its marketing.
Two clauses matter. Its supplier terms require operators to offer GetYourGuide prices, availability and conditions “equal to or better than” what they sell on their own site — so the commission comes out of the operator’s margin rather than being added to yours. And its general terms set free cancellation up to twenty-four hours before the activity as the default, with no refund inside that window. Most of this category leaves both of those to the individual listing.
The honest counterweight is the review profile. It scores 3.9 on Trustpilot across fifty-six thousand reviews, and nineteen per cent of those are a single star — the worst share of the five here. The complaints are not about the platform being a con; they are about tours cancelled at short notice, pickups that never arrived, and cancellation rules enforced to the letter when the operator would happily have moved things. Most bookings are fine. When one is not, expect the policy rather than sympathy. Worth knowing too: the terms allow an exchange fee on “highly volatile” currencies, which is the only such clause we found in this category.
What works
- Operators must not undercut it on their own website
- Free cancellation to 24 hours before is the default, in the terms
- Enormous depth across western Europe
- The best-rated app of the five
- Tickets download to the phone and work offline
What does not
- 19% of its reviews are one star, the worst on this page
- Depth outside Europe is not published and looks thinner
- Reserves the right to add an exchange fee on volatile currencies
- Cancellation is enforced rigidly, even when the operator would not have
