The review
Airalo is the default, and for once the default is defensible. Thirty million people have used it, it sells in more than two hundred places, and if you are heading somewhere the smaller sellers have skipped it is usually the one that has it.
It is also the only eSIM here that behaves like a phone line. Its single-country plans in several places include real local minutes and texts, so the American 5GB plan at nineteen dollars carries fifty minutes and fifty messages alongside the data. Its global plan goes further and issues you an American number that takes calls both ways. If you are tired of being unreachable except on WhatsApp, this is the fix.
The case against is price and temper. It is the most expensive of the three like-for-like plans on this page, and it has the worst review record of the five, driven by a recurring pattern: something fails, a tiny amount of data has registered, and the refund is refused. Buy a small plan first in a new country rather than a large one.
